Post-flood Resilient Recovery and Strengthening of the Livestock Sector in Balochistan

The Post-Flood Resilient Recovery and Strengthening of the Livestock Sector in Balochistan project is funded by the European Union and is being implemented by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The project aims to support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the livestock sectors, particularly sheep, goat, and poultry value chains in six districts of Balochistan, that were severely affected by the 2022 floods.

The overall objective is to contribute to post 2022 floods climate-resilient socioeconomic recovery in the most affected and poorest districts of Balochistan province. While the specific objective of PPAF component is to improve value chains and market linkages in agriculture and livestock sectors of Balochistan.

Key Programme Interventions (PPAF Component):
• Supporting communities to work as livestock producer groups for collective production and establishment of community-led livestock markets and facilitate women and youth-led MSMEs to work on different value chains of sheep, goat, and poultry.
• Income Generating Grants (IGGs)/ restocking of livestock for poorest, and flood affected families, community livelihood fund for increase in livestock numbers and provide matching grants for enterprises in a range of innovative ideas.
• Improving the creditworthiness capacity of MSMEs and closely work with financial institutions to improve access of MSMEs to meet their additional capital requirements for expansion in business, create new green jobs and market linkages.
• Working at community level with livestock farmers and offer community level support to FAO for effective implementation of livestock protection and production services.

Expected Results
• Strengthened capacities of target groups in improving value addition and compliance to food safety and sustainability standards
• Increased livestock assets of target women and men farmers/entrepreneurs
• Enhanced access of women and men farmers to finances for value addition of livestock and livestock products
